The Scarlet Hotel Review

As any Mum will tell you it is often hard to find a few minutes peace, sometimes even finding a few moments to write this blog can prove a challenge in itself (tonight, each sentence is being written in between running up and down the stairs to reassure my toddler that he really doesn't need the yellow truck downstairs to help him drift off to sleep... and if he could just sing 'jelly on a plate' a tad quieter that would really help to keep his baby brother in the Land of Nod!

Last week I managed to indulge in a whole day to myself when I went on a Spa Day to The Scarlet Hotel, Cornwall to celebrate my Sister-In Laws birthday. Here is my review of the day.........

Background

The Scarlet is an Eco- Hotel for adults situated above the breathtaking Mawgan Porth Beach. The Spa is inspired by the Ayurveda Practice .... a health system which treats the 'whole person'. Ayurveda practitioners use massage to unblock energy channels (This should be great for me, I have zero energy levels after running after a baby and toddler all week!)

Environment:

As soon as you enter The Scarlet's Spa you feel a million miles away from everyday life. We were encouraged to lounge around in our robes for the day and to forget all about time - the therapists would come and collect us when it was time for our treatments. This was bliss for me as in a normal day I am constantly aware of what comes next in the boys routine... in order to retain some level of calm in our household!

The Spa environment is second to none, everything about it screams relaxation. You can flit from chilling out on giant basket chairs, loungers, cosy beanbags and even amazing hanging pods! ... More about those in a future post :) The indoor pool was so inviting and it was a real treat to take a dip in between treatments. The outdoor 'natural' pool is located with stunning views of the ocean below.

Treatments and Products

The therapists at the Spa are extremely professional and approachable and are keen to ensure your day is as relaxing as possible. The Spa 'journey' I opted for was 'Inspired by Air - brighten, lift, float!' (This included Ayurvedic Mukabhyanga (facial massage)  a Scarlet nail treat, 2 course lunch and use of all spa facilities)

The nail treat took place in the main relaxation room whilst sitting on large beanbags. I was able to still chat to the other girls in my party and enjoyed an amazing view of the beach below. It felt so cosy to be inside on such a rainy day and we could even hear the sea as we sipped on our herbal brews :) The herbal tea was very welcome and gave me the chance to detox from my 'coffee on tap' habit which keeps me on the ball whilst looking after the boys!

The nail treatment was lovely and included a quick file, hand massage and polish which I was able to keep. This was a good job though as unfortunately it chipped off within a day, as did the rest of our party's, so a bit of a thumbs down for the SpaRitual product used :(

The facial massage took place in an amazing tented treatment room, it had a bit of a Morroccan feel to it and instantly made me feel far away from my everyday life. The treatment itself was very calming but with such inspiring surroundings it didn't quite live up to my expectations. After the treatment the therapist took me to the darkened deep relaxation room which was made up of a number of hanging cocoon like- pods. This was something else, the pods are so snug and cosy and sway very gently from side to side. I'd never seen anything like them before. The Scarlet have definitely achieved the ultimate chill out zone for any tired Mummy or Mummy to be!

Spa Dining

A member of staff came to collect us to show us to our lunch. It was great that we were able to dine whilst still wearing our robes in the private Spa dining room. We enjoyed fantastic views over Mawgan Porth and lunch was delicious :) The staff were very accommodating and decorated my sister-in-laws desert plate with 'Happy Birthday' for us. We were all very happy diners :)

And Finally.....

The Scarlet Spa is well worth a visit for any worn out Mummy. It is full of quirky ways to relax and it will definitely make you feel miles away from your everyday worries. There are many more treatments to try too which I'm sure would have the 'Wow Factor '(I am quite tempted by their 'body tingling scrub'  in the Hammam).

The cliff-top hot tubs are definitely calling me back too ... (note to the hubby.... great Christmas present!!!) All of our party left feeling energised and calm and I was ready to resume normal Mummy duties once more.

If you feel a bit of a pamper day coming on check out the Scarlet's Spa menu for a bit of inspiration .....
